I haven't read it yet, but it deserves 4 stars for doing this for multiple reasons. One. (1) How is it that one of the coolest medium for making a story fresh and poignant doesn't have a commentary/editorial/investigative book about it? 4 Stars for getting it done.; (2) You have variety. Through the table of contents, I have seen popular European and Asian influences in this medium for a plot.; (3) Many easter eggs in there, that bring be me back and define for me what I couldn't express about why I love time travel; (4) The movie Shawn of the Dead was a respectful parody of the zombie movie sub-genre. They studied and watched and read many resources and create an entertaining synergy of the many aforementioned. This book is a resource for ME an my next time travel story. Thanks Authors.

If the person is unable to see a problem or find help on their own, friends or family should try to intervene. Sometimes people do not often see what is right in front of them, especially when they live a life of seeing things differently from other people. When friends or family begin to see a strong withdrawal, especially when it turns into self-isolation, they need to start taking steps to help their loved one recognize that there is an issue and that help is needed. Unfortunately, those doing what they think are in the best interest of someone they care about can often make things worse. With a patient that has AvPD, taking care not to insult, reject, or humiliate them is important. This means that a well-meaning friend forcing an AvPD friend to attend a movie or go shopping is actually doing more harm than good. The friend does not realize that by forcing someone she cares about to directly face such a large fear at one time can cause the fear to get even more severe. If, instead, the friend slowly introduces a new friend to the AvPD sufferer, and the patient is being introduced in smaller increments, they have a chance to get used to the process of meeting a new person under their current restraints. For the most part, though, intervention should basically focus on helping the person realize that living with AvPD can be tolerable and helping them get professional assistance in overcoming their problems.

Not an "Ultimate Guide" - more a "Very First Introduction"

I am formally diagnosed with Avoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD). I fit all the DSM qualifying criteria to a tee. I have read books by Millon (x5), Benjamin (x2), Young (x2), Linehan, Kantor, Beck et al on personality disorders, as well as various other less informed and less directed authors. I met with 25 psychochologists/psychiatrists inside and outside hospitals, and had hundreds of counselling sessions - all on this topic. In addition, I have analysed and obsessed over this topic for many years in an effort to get relief from the chronic and severe dysfunction I have.

This book touts itself as "The Ultimate Guide". This is utterly untrue. It is, at best, "A First Introduction" - I personally gained nothing from it. The book is 68 pages of large print, double spaced on small pages. It can be read and fully absorbed in well under an hour. It has just 2 references - both come from a single website. The contents of the book itself are representative of this dearth of research. It consists of generalities again and again. For example at one stage it says something like "your therapy may be once or twice a week, or more or less than this". This statement is near meaningless - it covers all possibilities! Unfortunately the book itself is like this throughout - covering all possibilities, not ruling anything in or out, and not making any insight. Where it does make a good suggestion, this is happened on by chance in a list of possibilities. There is no indication the author knows the "good" from the "bad".

The book was cheap - it cost me something like $12. Although it has no insights, I can see it as having merit for someone who is completely unfamiliar with personality disorders and clinical psychology. It reviews the diagnostic criteria (albeit symptoms, not underlying causes), and presents various options for treatment that have been touted that the beginner can then read more about from more informed sources.

For me, "The Ultimate Guide" remains Lorna Smith Benjamin, whose books provided enormous insight into my personality disorder (and effective treatement) far beyond any other source I have encountered (either in print or in person). Her books, however, are not aimed for the lay reader. To appreciate them fully a lot of groundwork needs to be done in terms of learning about all the 14 officially-recognised personality disorders in terms of the personality modes that we use everyday. I don't know of a good single source for this. However I can say Martin Kantor's earlier book, although flawed and disordered, has many excellent concrete examples of AvPD. So, for those wishing to absorb about how AvPD looks like in real life, this is one place to try next.

This book has some pretty good information in it

This book has some pretty good information in it, but it's very poorly written and therfore hard to read. There clearly was no skilled editor involved. Unfortunately, I'm noticing more and more books like this on amazon lately - - written by amateurs in a weekend or. Low quality. Short. Disappointing.

I have been struggling with "something " forever it seems and I have read a lot of books on mental illnesses. Many of the books described me somewhat, but , this book I feel was written just for me! Every page read like I wrote the book myself. I finally am having some sort of hope. I am gonna talk to my psychiatric doctor about this. So far I have only been treated for my depression and now I realize it's much more then that! Thank you for this book.

About the Author

Randall Fulton has more than 36 years of electrical engineering experience in software and electronic hardware development and verification. He holds a BS from the Pennsylvania State University and earned his FAA DER credentials in software and programmable logic devices while working at Boeing Commercial Aircraft. As a DER, he has had approval authority for programmable logic devices since 1997 and has worked numerous Part 23 and Part 25 certification programs with field programmable gate arrays, ASIC, and software. Randall, along with Roy Vandermolen, taught the DO-254 practitioners course for RTCA in Washington, DC from 2006 to 2009. Randall has also taught the Airborne Electronic Hardware Job Functions class for the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City. He currently works as an FAA consultant DER through his company SoftwAir Assurance, Inc.

Roy Vandermolen is an electronics design engineer with more than 35 years of experience ranging from vacuum tubes to programmable logic devices, but has spent the majority of that time designing and verifying programmable logic devices and the circuit cards that employ them. Roy holds a BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is currently a staff engineer and certification manager for electronic flight control systems at Moog Aircraft and an airborne electronics hardware OBAR for Boeing Commercial Aircraft. Roy has worked in a variety of research laboratories, educational institutions, military R&D facilities, and commercial aircraft flight controls manufacturers. At Moog Aircraft, Roy has been involved in the design, verification, and certification of numerous Level A flight control systems. Roy, along with Randall Fulton, taught the DO-254 practitioners course for RTCA in Washington, DC from 2006 to 2009.

Finally, A Solid Treatment of DO-254

Just finished a detailed read of this new textbook on DO-254. This is the first comprehensive look at this standard provided by practitioners responsible for assessing Do-254 compliance. The book helps fill a void created by differing regulatory interpretations and widely disparate opinions on how and when DO-254 should be applied. The book offers a fairly straight-forward treatment of the complete contents of DO-254. The strongest chapters are those devoted to hardware requirements analysis/capture and something the authors have dubbed "Design Assurance Through Design Practice." These chapters drive home the point that design assurance is much more than simply completing certain process-driven documentation. Rather, the proper application of design assurance requires a strong foundation of solid requirements implemented and verified via a mindset of bulletproofing your design and going the extra mile to anticipate possible faults in your logic. Detailed examples focused on ways shift registers can misbehave due to clock skew or synthesis tools can modify your logic design thus creating problems in unexpected places are especially beneficial to the reader. There are opportunities for improvement in the second edition including more discussion of where it may be possible to reduce effort for lower design assurance levels, more background on safety concerns associated with specific technologies (e.g., SRAM, COTS IP), creation and use of appropriate HDL standards, and how to ensure successful SOI audits of your DO-254 processes. A second edition could also easily add additional material of other potential error sources and how they should be addressed/mitigated within the DO-254 context. Finally, a treatment of additional verification techniques including Assertion-Based Verification (ABV) and Constrained Random Testing (CRT) and their use in satisfying DO-254 objectives would be helpful. Even without this material, this book is a significant contribution toward helping practitioners use and comply with DO-254.

Excellent guide to RTCA/DO-254 and its implications and practice in reality.

I have been hoping someone would write a practical guide to RTCA/DO-254. It is here in this book. Written by two professionals that have lived it for many years. There is sufficient background on the RTCA guidance document for the novice to understand the intent and for the long suffering to explore the aha! moments of understanding. I thoroughly enjoyed these moments of insight myself as I read and reread the text. There is an excellent chapter on requirements which gives insight into a method of approach that makes the requirements-based verification of the end item almost a no-brainer! This chapter alone is worth the investment for those involved in requirements-based design and verification. It is about time. Thanks a million!!!

Exactly what we've been trying to teach designers for YEARS -- Write Requrements With VERIFICATION In Mind, NOT Design!

This book is a terrific resource and a clear, stepwise treatment of how to design DO-254 hardware correctly the first time.

So very many of the clients I've come across are convinced that the planning (what's called "SOI-1" in DO-254), design (SOI-2), and verification (SOI-3) tasks for DO-254 are merely Annoying Documents and not useful for anything other than to check-off a box for the FAA.
The author has produced a blueprint for doing all of this correctly, and backed it up with reasoning -- that planning has to come before design, that writing requirements before ANY VHDL or Verilog allows you to prove that you did it right, that the reqs have to be well-thought-out (not vague) and testable, and that writing the requirements with verification (not design or implementation) first in mind saves MASSIVE amounts of time later when the designer has to prove conclusively that "what you designed is also what you verified, and they are both what you wanted in the first place."

Highly recommended.

Don't we all have superhero powers??

the title of this short story caught my attention. Written from the main character's point of view, as he navigates his relationships-giving other's nicknames that relate better to who they are rather than their given name. So clever! And such a study of human nature. Engaging, charming and even thought provoking.

Great story

I really loved this plot and the authors writing style. I wish that the author had taken this idea and made it into a full novel instead f a short story since it was really interesting. The only thing that I didn't like about the book was that at the end of some of the chapters the author added lists of other superheroes that had nothing to do with the actual story. I thought was a distraction and took me out of the story a little.

Great Torah commentary

This is a fascinating approach to understanding yet further, the myriad of interpretations that evolve from Torah. Thoughtful, artful, and well-researched, also easily accessible for scholar and student. I highly recommend this for all interested in a new perspective from timeless text.
