Best Book on Self-Publishing that I have ever read.

There are a lot of great things I could say about this book. It's funny. It's informative. Rather than going through a bullet point list of its many merits, let me focus on the quality that I enjoyed most.

The best thing about this book, to me, is that it is devoted to teaching you how to think. You won't find screenshots teaching you how to format your files for the different online retailers or step-by-steps walking you through how to fill out a product description. The advice in this book will not only help you today, but years from now. I feel confident saying that because the focus is on how to approach situations. It will show you what type of thinking and the attitude you should as you try to build a career. They will teach you how to CREATE opportunities (they are serious about the 'no luck' part) for yourself.

In this book, Sean, Johnny and Dave advocate a systemic and repeatable approach that takes the guesswork out of being an author. The work ethic and can-do attitude that fills every page appeals to me so much. It's inspirational and motivational. Reading the book really makes you believe that it's possible to approach a writing career as a business person instead of that guy risking everything on a roll of the dice. You don't have to hope and pray that you get lucky. There is a line in the early part of the book that says: "Success comes from hard work and the accumulation of small numbers." That is such an awesome sentence, but more than that, it's an awesome philosophy.

Ultimately, that's what this book is about. It teaches you how to win a lot of small battles that have the cumulative effect of leading you to a life of victory. If you want to learn how to make it as a self-published author, do yourself a favor and buy this book. Read this book and keep it close by so you can read it again.

Long-winded, Self-Indulgent, Not for Romance Authors

I've read several books on self-publishing and I've picked up several tips from most all of them. The best tip I got from this one is to put links for your other books in the back of the book. Gee! Brilliant, right? Reading this book I felt like I was listening to a bunch of guys sitting around enjoying hearing themselves talk. Ad nauseum. Guys who are quite in love with themselves and super proud of the fact that they wouldn't get a real job even if their family needed them to (I feel so sorry for their wives.) They even spent a whole chapter on social media telling us why they aren't going to talk about social media. (because they don't know anything about it. Hello, that could have been said in a sentence, not a whole chapter.) This book desperately needed a good editor, preferably one outside their "fan club."

I am sure that fans of their podcast will LOVE this book, and that is their audience. But if you are looking to publish romance this is not the book for you. Why? One of the authors of the book on self-publishing romance tells us she makes 30% of her income from foreign markets while these guys say - foreign markets aren't worth your time. Don't bother. Really? In this global economy with the increase expected in eBook sales in India? Really? They continually talk about their slutty friend (their words, not mine) who writes erotica, but rather than offering us any gems one can use (besides FREE books, another brilliant tidbit), it comes off more like an episode of Beavis & Butthead develop a crush on the cheerleader next door with the bad reputation. These guys sound like they are very successful authors and I wish them all the best. I just won't be reading any more of their books. Not for me.

IMO, the best book on self-publishing.

I have a pretty popular blog on self-publishing, and I've written a couple of books on the topic myself - meaning I've read a lot on the topic and come across lots of different strategies and approaches to building a loyal audience. For my money, this is the best book on self-publishing out there.

It doesn't matter if you are a beginner, someone who has published a few books, or have a lot of experience, you will get a huge amount from this book, which is jam-packed with all sorts of useful information. It's like a How To on how to build a publishing empire. I had several lightbulb moments reading this book, and I know you will too.

These guys know what they are talking about, they have published millions of words, self-published to great success, sold a series to Amazon, and built a loyal readership that will follow them anywhere.

And they tell you how to do it too. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy.

EDIT: I received an ARC of this book, but without any agreement to review, let alone give any certain type of review. I receive tons of ARCs all the time and most never even get read, let alone reviewed...

It's not a reference, it's a thick magazine

Here is what you will find in this book: basic, vague, feel-good advice, magazine-like single-sentence tips & tricks.

Here is what you will not find in this book:
* how to determine your skin type or
* what haircuts look good on you
* how to shave or choose razors/trimmers
* specific product recommendations, not even what chemicals to look for in the products or what to avoid
* any arguments, proof or scientific research why you need to moisturize or apply sunscreen
* no photos of protected/unprotected skin over a span of several years or any other examples, only stock photos of male models

His advice on how to determine your skin type: go to a dermatologist.
His advice for choosing a haircut: go to a stylist.
His advice what to do if you are bald or are getting bald: go to a stylist and ask what's best.

There are no examples of haircuts on different shapes of heads, there are no photos that compare what haircuts look good and bad on balding men. His advice for grooming your hair is to use shampoo, conditioner and go to a barber every three weeks. He covers shaving by advising you to shave with the grain, always use a sharp razor and use beard oils, go to a barber and... that's it.

What's worse, the book is repetitive. He addresses specific grooming needs for several types of lifestyles... except the advice you'll read is the same. I read about moisturizing and "eye cream with an SPF of no less than 50" eight times.

This book looks like a magazine, not a book.

This book was given me as a gift for Christmas. I really wanted to like this book so as to not hurt the feelings of the person who gave it to me. There's "reference" in the title, but the book is practically useless. I'd ask for a refund if I could.

Spending money on an advice book about spending money to get advice.

I was expecting more useful advice for grooming. This book isn't very valuable as a tool for skincare or grooming. There was no instruction about how different ingredients work for or against your skincare, or any specific information about the art of shaving. Most of the suggestions involve paying someone else to decide all these things for you. I was hoping this "guide" would be helpful for the regular man trying to up their grooming game, but often it only teaches you how to spend money for the best advice. Disappointing.

What’s cool about this book is that it makes you think about how the way you take care of yourself is a reflection of the way you care for the people in your life or the various roles you have. It makes you more conscious of how you take care of yourself as a whole, from how you adjust to jet lag to proper grooming being another investment you make in yourself. The other cool thing is that there are life hacks in each chapter that cover everything from a DIY-version of polishing your shoes to keeping unruly eyebrows in place. I think this is an excellent book for any guy looking for improvement not only in grooming but in becoming a more positive and confident person to both himself and to others. I highly recommend.

Oh noo! This is too much on my heart. I hope Violet is ok. I really want her to leave Miguel the hell alone. He keeps running back to Faith so let them be. He sees what he lost out on and it will hurt him even more if Violet moves on with Dom. I hope somebody puts a bullet in Faiths head real quick I'm so over her. I love Hazel. Please come on with part 2.

Please let Dom be there to help her through and let Miguel ass feel what Violet felt, he and faith need to take a long run on a short bridge, yea I'm in my feels about this book man oh man it was sooooo good waiting on the next part :)

About the Author

Jane Johnson, MSc, is a chartered physiotherapist and sport massage therapist specializing in occupational health. In this role she spends much time assessing the posture of clients and examining whether work, sport, or recreational postures may be contributing to their symptoms. She devises postural correction plans that include both hands-on and hands-off techniques.

Johnson has taught continuing professional development (CPD) workshops for many organizations both in the UK and abroad. This experience has brought her into contact with thousands of therapists of all disciplines and informed her own practice. She is passionate about supporting and inspiring newly qualified or less confident therapists so they feel more self-assured in their work.

Johnson is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and is registered with the Health Professions Council. A member of the Medico Legal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, she provides expert witness reports on cases involving soft tissue therapies.

In her spare time, Johnson enjoys taking her dog for long walks, sketching, and visiting museums. She resides in northeast England.

Impeccable quality

I read Edgar Allen Poe poems in school but none like this. The illustrations and the way the book is put together is just lovely. I can't express how much I enjoyed this book. The stories themselves are of course wonderful as well but what else would you expect from good old Edgar? I went so far as to look up the illustrator and will soon be getting new books put together in the same way. Shipping was fast also.

Buy it for the Art...

There are a multitude of Poe's out there to choose from, but the real draw here is the art of Gris Grimly. The book features slightly abridged texts for young readers of "The Black Cat," "The Masque of the Red Death," "Hop Frog," and "The Fall of the House of Usher." What makes this volume special is the way that text is embraced by and woven through Grimly's gloriously whimsical and twisted full color art that captures perfectly the macabre and maniacle tone of Poe. The volume is richly illustrated with art on every page. All in all a beautiful book and a great introduction to Poe for young readers of twisted tastes.

I read Edgar A. Poe's Tales of Mystery and Madness. This book has 4 stories; Black Cat, The Masque of the Red Death, Hop Frog, and The Fall of the House of Usher. I won't go into detail about all the stories but my favorite story was The Masque of the Red Death.

The story starts with people who were having a masquerade at Prince Prospero's house. Each hour the clock chimed. At the 12th chime a person in a red cape came out of the clock and frightened everyone at the masquerade. Prince Prospero tried to kill him but the Prince died when he saw his face. Then, anyone who saw his face or dared to enter the red blood shot room died by bleeding to death. Will anyone survive? You will have to read it yourself to find out.

I though all of the stories in the book were scary and cool. I also thought the illustrations by Chris Grimley were very creative. I would recommend for anyone who likes horror to read this book.
