It still works!

As an experiment, I decided to use this book for two weeks with the suggested music. To my amazement, it really works! I'm just 20 and so it is a huge novelty not to follow a tv screen.
In the book, Jane doesn't just address aerobics, but where society places people in life, the enviroment and healthy eating.
I now have this workout on DVD so really use the book as reference to healthy living.
You would have thought that it would be hard to follow a book to workout with. But it isn't. For every move there are professionally taken indepth photographs with descriptions.
You really use this book until you remember the moves off by heart. But it's use doesn't stop there as it is jam packed with so much information.
And the funny thing is it feels better working out in the absense of a television screen.

GREAT FITNESS BOOK FOR BODY AND LIFE

I purchased this book based on three things. One I wanted to see an example of Jane Fonda's original 1982 workout(hard to find/expensive). Two I love almost all of JF workouts. Three the one review I read confirmed I needed this for my collection. This is truly a wonderful book I can see why it was a best seller. This book offers information on a wide range of subjects from self-esteem, diet, social and enviromental issues, not to mention the two workouts. This was a great buy.

This book offers a begginer and advanced workout. Each workout begins with warm-up and ends with a cool down. At the begging of each exercise routine there is a list of music that could accompany the exercise. This can be used as a guide to choosing your own music. Both routines have an aerobics, arms, waist, abs, hips and thighs, bottocks. The workouts last about 30-45 for beginner and 40-60 mins for advanced. The cardio portion of both workouts are simple but short, however you can easily extend it.

This workout is great for the flexibility it offers. This is a workout that you can truly make your own. You could even do it while you are watching television. One of the things I really liked was making my own music to this workout. Being abel to chose your own music that you enjoy, really keeps you going. This is great if you like to make compilation tapes or cds.

Now I know what your thinking I don't go for exercise books. And for the most part I would agree, with all the page turning reading descriptions and the pictures that make no sense. But this is written and shown in a very clear manner. Over time this should just be a guide. Because you should start to memorize the workout.

This is a great workout if your short on time or you don't feel like going to the gym of even putting a exercise tape in the vcr. This workout out is total body toning. You could even use light hand weights during some of the arm movements for extra work. However some of the movements can be jarring and hard on the joints. Just modify it to fit your own personal needs. If it feels wrong don't do it. If you like this workout I would recommend Jane Fonda's New Workout Book or VHS and Jane Fonda's Women Coming of Age and Jane Fonda's Easy Going Workout.

Still a great book

I bought this book in the 80's after the birth of my son. Within 4 months, I had lost 20 lbs & was toned & trim. A few years ago, I made the stupid error of getting rid of it. I repurchased it again because the excercises remain effective and it is a killer workout. Old school for me is the way to go!

I knew that Flint’s story wouldn’t be easy to read

Fighting Shadows is a book I’ve been dying for. I read Fighting Silence this past February. I’ve read about 150 books so far this year and Fighting Silence is still my top read of 2015. So getting a second book in this series about the Page’s middle brother Flint is something I’ve been looking forward to. After finishing Silence, I knew that Flint’s story wouldn’t be easy to read. The Page brother’s never seem to have it easy.

Flint isn’t in a good place. He’s pushing away the people who love him. He’s hurt, and more than just physically hurt. He loves his brothers more than anything, but he’s in love with someone he can’t have and it’s devastating. Not being able to deal with the hurt and the guilt, he gets away for a while. When he meets Ash Mabie, he’s not in a good place, but he still is a good man. He tries to help her and it means everything.

Ash is a great person who hasn’t lived the best life. She’s got a crappy family and hasn’t really had anyone in her life who cared or stuck up for her. When she meets Flint, she knows he's special. She is able to see the real Flint who has been hiding away. She is able to get through to him when no one else can.

I loved the dynamic of Ash and Flint’s relationship. Flint could be so grouchy and Ash was the perfect balance of smiles and sunshine. She was really able to open Flint up, see the real him and she loved him for it. She could care less that he was in that chair. She saw Flint. She wanted him. The man he is now. No matter what was happening in his life or how he was feeling, a smile from Ash could make everything better. She gave him a feeling of worth again. Just by smiling at him and accepting him.

I wish I could say this couple had an easy path and glided right into their happy ever after. They both deserve that. Easy love. But love isn’t always easy. Sometimes it’s rough, messy and sometimes people (*cough*FLINT*cough*) are just jerks. I thought the turn their story took was interesting. I liked how it played out.

Flint was never my favorite Page brother. And after reading part of this book, I thought… yeah. Definitely not my favorite. But he really grew on me. I loved how he changed and proved himself to Ash. No one is perfect. He was going through so much physically and emotionally it’s easy to understand why he acted the way he did. I was so happy that by the end of the story he won me over.

Ash on the other hand I loved from the start! She is one of the best heroines I’ve read about in a while. I loved her positive attitude. How even though her life wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows she always looked on the bright side of things. I love how she was with Flint- and with Quarry. I just loved her in general! Ash wasn’t perfect. She had some insecurities, but her reasons were real. She was real. She pretty much stole the show and made this book for me.

This series is epic. These books are absolutely perfect for a reader like me. I can’t put my finger on what I love so much or what makes them so amazing, they just are. I highly recommend this series. I can’t wait to read more books by Aly because I think she is an amazing story teller and I love her writing. And after that ending… I am dying for Quarry’s book. I know it will shatter my heart, but I also know it will be nothing short of spectacular!

I am in FLOVE with the Page brothers! Another fanfreakintastic read from Aly Martinez!!!

To say I’ve been chomping my nails waiting for Flint’s story is a serious understatement. The wait was so worth it!! OMG! I loved Till Page in Fighting Silence. I FLOVE Flint’s story. I don’t even know how I could love Flint’s story more, but I do. Or maybe my heart is just torn in two for these boys. Whatever it is, they are stories I will never forget.

At the end of Till’s story, you just knew that Flint’s story was going to be an emotional rollercoaster. I knew my heart would break. I knew my heart would soar and I knew that I would fall in love with Flint. Fighting Shadows takes off right where Fighting Silence ends. They can be read as standalones, but please pick up Fighting Shadows I guarantee you will love Till Page’s story which will introduce you to Flint also.

I was seriously blown away with the first. Now, I do believe I just got knocked flat on my @$$! Even if you didn’t read the first book (which again I am telling you that you MUST or you are missing out) you will fall right into this book with no problems (except me being mad you didn’t read the first book, lol)

This is all about Flint Page ( Till’s younger brother) and Ash Mabie. You will live Flint’s journey of trying to overcome what happened in Fighting Silence and acceptance of what is now his life. He has always felt more love for Eliza (Till’s wife) than he should. I understand why he feels what he does; it’s easily confused when you have a mother figure/ friend/ beautiful woman around you for the first time in your life. It’s not until he meets Ash that finally begins to live and recognizes his true feelings. I love Ash’s character; despite how she lived she was the complete opposite of what you would expect her to be.

And folks, that’s all you’re going to get from me, because I feel like I will start spewing spoilers and no one likes that!

I really am a new Aly Martinez super fan. Sure, I’ve read some of her other books and I’ve enjoyed each that I’ve read but this Page boys, I just can’t even put into words how much I love them. I love each character in these books, they all blend so well together creating the perfect cocktail! Her stories flow and will leave you reading straight into the night because you can’t put them down. Quarry’s book is next and I just know without a doubt his story will be equally heartbreaking. The Page brothers haven’t had an easy life and your heart surely won’t have an easy ride when reading these books!

Kudos Aly! Another 5…errr 6? Can I give a 6 star read? SURE I CAN! This is a must read series everyone. Pick them BOTH up now.

Beyond BRILLIANT!!!

Fighting Shadows is the story of Flint and Ash; it is book number 2 in Aly Martinez’s On The Ropes Series. Each book in this series can be read as a standalone, however, I would definitely recommend reading Fighting Silence first as the characters do cross over.
Nothing in Flint’s life has ever come easy – to call him a fighter, would be an understatement. He has fought in the gym, he showed as much promise as his brother Till, but his career was cut short due to a tragic occurrence. He struggles with his feelings for Eliza and what that means for his relationship with his brother. He also becomes quite withdrawn and sullen, and begins alienating those that love him the most.
Until he meets Ash Mabie – the beacon in an other wise dark world. Ash is the light to his darkness, and although the two may seem an unlikely duo they do bring out the best in each other. However, as circumstances would have it, nothing is at it seems with Ash and when the truth comes out, Flint does what he does best, he ices her out.
Once he realizes his mistake, he does his utmost to find her – but will it be too late to fight the shadows of the past? Will Ash be able to look past his feelings for Eliza? Will Flint finally be given his happy ending.?
Overall, this is a wonderful story and I would recommend to anyone. The point of view althernates throughout between Flint and Ash, which is really interesting – from a brooding alpha male to a damaged pick pocket with a heart of gold.
I loved that we got to see this dark side of Flint, in the first book, although life wasn’t easy, he did seem quite upbeat and the optimist of the family. I enjoyed that Aly wrote this dark and twisty soul and I loved watching his character develop. I have to say Aly outdid herself with this novel.
The character of Ash is a breath of fresh air – initially we meet her as this pick pocket helping her thieving father and we are not sure how to feel about her, but as the story develops we begin to understand her reasons for doing things, and we also see the softer side of her. I fell in love with the character of Ash Mabie – a gentle soul with so much love to give, but one who has also endured so much pain.
This is another magnificent 5 star read for me, Aly Martinez you are a literary goddess and I cannot wait to read all about Quarry’s story, I know that one is going to leave me absolutely devastated.

Everything You Need To Know To Live Victoriously

The author of this book was not only saved in Dr. Lake's church in Portland,Ore.,he also traveled with Dr. Lake and stayed in his home, where he was healed of deadly food poisoning while reading these very sermons. Gordon Lindsay also pastored Dr. Lake's church in Texas for a while. The beauty of this book is in the fact that Lindsay did not add to or take away, he just published. These sermons by Dr. Lake are probably some of the best I have ever read. One sermon (p.75) tells you exactly how to know AND do God's Will, and how to be led by the Holy Spirit. As The General Overseer of Dr. Lake's organization, I have made this book mandatory reading for all our Bible College students, Ministerial Candidates, and Healing Room Personnel and patients. This one is a MUST READ.

The real thing

The first time I heard about this book was through a friend who told me that for a certain amount of time after reading it-something like 3 years-he did not even catch a cold. I thought to myself, "If only I could find that book, what good could it do me too!" Thank God for Amazon! I logged on to the internet and started searching and found it. I found it helped me walk in divine healing and gave some interesting insights. It's been a year and I was in perfect health for at least 5 months after reading it! So hey, buy, read, and apply and see if Jesus isn't the same yesterday, today and forever.

If you're just looking for a light sample of Brother Lake's messages, this is the book for you. However, if you'd like something more substantial, I highly recommend "John G. Lake: The Complete Collection of His Life Teachings" by Roberts Liardon (Compiler). For little more than what you'll pay for this, you can get a 1000+ page volume of nearly everything ever transcribed for or written by Brother Lake.
This book is a classic, however, it's touched so many, long before Liardon compiled his volume, and I prefer to have a copy in my library. You will, too.

Movies - Liquor - Match Made In Heaven

Moloko Plus - never in a million years would I imagine I could actually have that drink. I read the book, probably at a younger age than I should have, (never realizing there was a glossary in the back - I figured out the language on my own) and I saw the movie. I always wondered, what is a Moloko Plus - what's in it? Well now I have a recipe - maybe I have to leave out the synthetic parts of the drink, but I can now make that very famous drink.

At its core, this is a basic cocktail book - just about every imaginable drink is covered. The authors didn't try to elevate the recipes, they present them simply and without a lot of extras. The super charming part of this book - the tie in with a movie. The authors found a film where the particular cocktail was served, then built a short well written summary of when the star of the movie appears (oh, no I mean the cocktail shows up). Sometimes they include a quote, other times just a wonderful story. The cocktail page is rounded out with an abbreviated history of the cocktail.

It is very straightforward. Illustrations are unusual - they are stylized drawings with primary colors from a photograph (if you're familiar with Daytrotter - the images are similar). The drinks are simple photographs on a white background - all done in the same style. Seeing drink presentation is important.

In a way I love this book - I love film, I love cocktails, I love making cocktails, and I love drinking them. Combine all that together and yes, this is a fabulous book. And the good thing - you almost don't need another bar book, just about anything anybody would ever order is in this book. Yeah, they skimp on the prohibition and 1920s drinks that are so creative and awesome (what no monkey gland, no death at dusk, no corpse revival #2), but that's an editorial choice. You get the basics here - the great starting point for modifying the cocktails.

The first few pages of the book give a nice background, talk about bar equipment (yes they are quite right, only a Boston shaker please), and liquor. Like the rest of the book, they don't spend forever making things complicated. They also don't dumb anything down.

My only criticism of the book is not talking about quality of ingredients, or recommending brands. Vermouth is a big old topic, and a crummy vermouth (what most people end up getting at a bar) will make a horrible drink. Laying out a set of recommended brands in a glossary at the back would have been nice. And some of the drinks require some unusual ingredients where you'll use a small amount. Absinthe is one of those - to guide you, any Absinthe that is in a 375 mL bottle is most likely a very good one.

I really do love this book. I smiled at the movies chosen - hey they didn't even get all uppity about the choices - anything with Saturday Night Fever in it is fine with me.

A Clockwork Orange - that's where they drank Moloko Plus.

I just received this book as a belated Christmas gift, and I am thrilled! This is perfect for the lover of movies and libations. The book is beautifully illustrated, and features cocktails from both Classic movies, and recent favorites too. A great conversation piece for parties! I'm looking forward to trying every cocktail on the list (while watching each movie, of course)!

In his first book since 1999, it's just like old times as Vonnegut (now 82) makes with the deeply black humor in this collection of articles written over the last five years, many from the alternative magazine In These Times. But the pessimistic wisecracks may be wearing thin; the conversational tone of the pieces is like Garrison Keillor with a savage undercurrent. Still, the schtick works fine most of the time, underscored by hand-lettered aphorisms between chapters. Some essays suffer from authorial self-indulgence, however, like taking a dull story about mailing a manuscript and stretching it to interminable lengths. Vonnegut reserves special bile for the "psychopathic personalities" (i.e., "smart, personable people who have no consciences") in the Bush administration, which he accuses of invading Iraq so America can score more of the oil to which we have become addicted. People, he says, are just "chimpanzees who get crazy drunk on power." About the Author
Born in 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana, KURT VONNEGUT was one of the few grandmasters of modern American letters. Called by the New York Times “the counterculture’s novelist,” his works guided a generation through the miasma of war and greed that was life in the U.S. in second half of the 20th century. After a stints as a soldier, anthropology PhD candidate, technical writer for General Electric, and salesman at a Saab dealership, Vonnegut rose to prominence with the publication of Cat’s Cradle in 1963. Several modern classics, including Slaughterhouse-Five, soon followed. As a kid I was the youngest member of my family, and the youngest child in any family is always a jokemaker, because a joke is the only way he can enter into an adult conversation. My sister was five years older than I was, my brother was nine years older than I was, and my parents were both talkers. So at the dinner table when I was very young, I was boring to all those other people. They did not want to hear about the dumb childish news of my days. They wanted to talk about really important stuff that happened in high school or maybe in college or at work. So the only way I could get into a conversation was to say something funny. I think I must have done it accidentally at first, just accidentally made a pun that stopped the conversation, something of that sort. And then I found out that a joke was a way to break into an adult conversation.

I grew up at a time when comedy in this country was superb—it was the Great Depression. There were large numbers of absolutely top comedians on radio. And without intending to, I really studied them. I would listen to comedy at least an hour a night all through my youth, and I got very interested in what jokes were and how they worked.

When I’m being funny, I try not to offend. I don’t think much of what I’ve done has been in really ghastly taste. I don’t think I have embarrassed many people, or distressed them. The only shocks I use are an occasional obscene word. Some things aren’t funny. I can’t imagine a humorous book or skit about Auschwitz, for instance. And it’s not possible for me to make a joke about the death of John F. Kennedy or Martin Luther King. Otherwise I can’t think of any subject that I would steer away from, that I could do nothing with. Total catastrophes are terribly amusing, as Voltaire demonstrated. You know, the Lisbon earthquake is funny.

I saw the destruction of Dresden. I saw the city before and then came out of an air-raid shelter and saw it afterward, and certainly one response was laughter. God knows, that’s the soul seeking some relief.

Any subject is subject to laughter, and I suppose there was laughter of a very ghastly kind by victims in Auschwitz.

Humor is an almost physiological response to fear. Freud said that humor is a response to frustration—one of several. A dog, he said, when he can’t get out a gate, will scratch and start digging and making meaningless gestures, perhaps growling or whatever, to deal with frustration or surprise or fear.

And a great deal of laughter is induced by fear. I was working on a funny television series years ago. We were trying to put a show together that, as a basic principle, mentioned death in every episode and that this ingredient would make any laughter deeper without the audience’s realizing how we were inducing belly laughs.

There is a superficial sort of laughter. Bob Hope, for example, was not really a humorist. He was a comedian with very thin stuff, never mentioning anything troubling. I used to laugh my head off at Laurel and Hardy. There is terrible tragedy there somehow. These men are too sweet to survive in this world and are in terrible danger all the time. They could be so easily killed.


Even the simplest jokes are based on tiny twinges of fear, such as the question, “What is the white stuff in bird poop?” The auditor, as though called upon to recite in school, is momentarily afraid of saying something stupid. When the auditor hears the answer, which is, “That’s bird poop, too,” he or she dispels the automatic fear with laughter. He or she has not been tested after all.

“Why do firemen wear red suspenders?” And “Why did they bury George Washington on the side of a hill?” And on and on.

True enough, there are such things as laughless jokes, what Freud called gallows humor. There are real-life situations so hopeless that no relief is imaginable.

While we were being bombed in Dresden, sitting in a cellar with our arms over our heads in case the ceiling fell, one soldier said as though he were a duchess in a mansion on a cold and rainy night, “I wonder what the poor people are doing tonight.” Nobody laughed, but we were still all glad he said it. At least we were still alive! He proved it.

A Quick Read Which Will be Sure To Get You Thinking!

A Man Without A Country is a surefire hit for any Vonnegut fan. The book is a collection of ideas and short writings from the mind of 82 year old Kurt Vonnegut. The writings are reminiscent of a modern day blogger which is ironic considering Vonnegut's dislike of technological advance. I feel that his writings in this semi-memoire were quite amusing, well organized and inciteful. His feelings on war and the current state of this country are a little off the beaten path but they open your eyes to another way of thinking. I was also very impressed by his comparison of gasoline/petrolium to drug addiction. Overall this is a great book and a very quick read. Vonnegut will surely go down in history as one of the greatest writers of all time.

Looking to the Upper Story

The bigger picture has always captivated me.

The idea that God is on a rescue mission to restore the world He created and the people in it to relationship with Him-- and how everything in the story of our lives, and all the individual stories we're living, are all working together to that end, and how, in fact, we are invited to play a part in that rescue mission story... It puts things in perspective.

Randy Frazee calls this bigger picture the 'upper story' in his book The Heart of the Story: God's Masterful Design to Restore His People. He calls our circumstances as we see them through our human experiences the 'lower story'. What I loved about this book was the idea of taking the whole entire bible--the hundreds of memorable and not so memorable 'lower' stories of human experience -- and making a basic summary of it to repaint it in light of the upper story, the bigger picture. In these stories innumerable many of us have grown up hearing about, the characters were firmly entrenched in their own lower stories of human circumstance, just like you and I. And yet, when we stand back and look at the bigger picture the Word of God is showing, we can see the upper story significance of each individual character's lower story (Have I driven home enough the 'story' idea yet?). There is something so innately encouraging in that. I happen to be firmly entrenched in my own lower story, and need constant reminders of that upper story God's unfolding just beyond my human vision, closer than my circumstances tell...

I was excited when I was offered this book for review because I relished the idea of digesting the whole entire story of the Bible all in one big gulp. Frazee, a teaching pastor by vocation and the author of numerous previous books, didn't disappoint in his anecdotal summary. I often get tripped up in the minor prophets. I take them one by one as moving pieces of literature, but struggle to fit them into the chronological narrative of Israel's story. The Heart of the Story helpfully wove the myriad of true tales together in a way that I could cognitively see where they fit into the story in history. And Frazee did it while also lifting the reader's eyes up to the way it all fits into the bigger picture / upper story.

If I could make any criticisms about this book, they would be only from a point of view of my admittedly snobby literaturary tastes :) I sometimes found his writing style a bit juvenile, as if he was trying too hard to sound 'cool', but because I believe this was an effort to make God's Word approachable by anyone, I think we should let it slide ;) It was extremely readable and that can be hard to find when it comes to wrestling with Biblical literature and matters of Theology.

All that said, I think you should read this book!

Good Primer on the Biblical Storyline

I think of people in my church right now.

We have a mix of people who are searching, but have not yet made a faith committment, new in the faith, but don't know how to read the bible, learning basic bible stories since they have never read the bible before.

Our church has many people who lack a basic biblical literacy that Christians have. They are new believers from unchurched background who are just now starting to read scriptures.

Like the newest members of our church congregation, if you are not familiar with the story line of Scripture, The Heart of the Story would be a great place to start.

I can imagine churches giving this book to first time church visitors, new Christians, or even in using The Heart of the Story in a seeker oriented class. It could also serve a rightful place in a Christianity 101 type class, or as a personal 31 day devotional.

If you are just starting out in your Christian walk and want to have that big-picture overview of the narrative of Scripture, Frazee can be your guide. Along the way, Frazee makes several connections to our current life, particularly about how God can use ordinary and even unlikely people to advance His plan.

Great book! Easy to read.

Have you ever wondered what you are missing? Why on earth is Numbers and Leviticus included in the Bible? Why must we suffer through some of the Old Testament. Why can't I just read the gospels and forget the rest? In his book The Heart of the Story by Randy Frazee he takes you on a journey. the thing is this journey is about YOU. It is about how God designed all of history to restore us His people. Randy steps us through many of the Major stories of the Bible from Genesis to Revelations and shows how these books and stories are apart of us. I once heard that in order to fully understand who you are you need to understand where you came from. This history included in the scriptures helps us to see God's design! The same God who has placed such detailed order and design to even the tiniest of molecules to the most distant star that no one might ever see; this same God has woven a detail into us that we need to understand. Thanks to Zondervan for giving me this chance to read this advanced copy. I recomend this book for personal, church, and small group study! I'll leave you with this video which tells you better what this book is about!

Good purchase

This order was just as I expected. I purchased it used, but it was in good condition. I was well satisfied especially with the price. Textbooks, as most of you know, can be extremely high and I was not looking to spend more than I did. I am well pleased and would purchase from this seller again.

A Wonderful real-life tale of Hope and the human spirit

This book tells an amazing story. There is simply no other way to describe it. It is the real-life story of Saroo, a five-year-old child in a village in central India, who gets lost and finds himself transported all the way east to Calcutta, some 1800 kms away. Young Saroo, all of five, penniless and illiterate, does not even know the name of his village and knows little else about where he was from. He gets off at the bustling, crowded Howrah train station and survives for six weeks in the intimidating bad and mean streets of Calcutta by his instincts and luck. He ends up at a benevolent orphanage called ISSA, where the kindly Ms.Saroj Sood - tries to find his family and re-unite him. But all Saroo can tell was that he was from Ginestlay, which is what he remembered as his village's name. He also mistakenly says that he travelled just overnight by train when in reality he had travelled almost 24 hours to get to Calcutta. After a couple of moths' futile effort, Mrs.Sood pronounces him 'lost' and organizes him to be adopted by Sue and John Brierley, a young couple from Tasmania, Australia.

Saroo is lovingly brought up by the Brierleys and he grows up into a happy and well-integrated Aussie over the next 20 years. However Saroo always wonders about his origins, with clear memories of his birth mother Kamala, his kid sister Shekila and elder brothers Kallu and Guddu, whom he looked up to as a child two decades before. He starts working on trying to find where he was from by using the feeble memories of his childhood. All he had to go by was that there was a train station whose name was something like 'Berampur' , that it had a water tower, an overpass across the tracks and that the town had a fountain near a cinema. His village 'Ginestlay' was somewhere nearby and that they were all reachable overnight by train from Calcutta. Gradually, over five years, with incredible patience and perseverance , Saroo, at age 30, using Google Earth's satellite images and Facebook, miraculously locates the train station with the identifying features of his childhood. He notes that a nearby town is called Khandwa and that there is a Facebook group belonging to people from Khandwa. He contacts them and gets the key info that there is a nearby village called Ganesh Talai - the 'Ginestlay' of 5-year-old Saroo! Saroo soon goes to India and reconnects with his birth family to the great delight of his elderly mother Kamala and his siblings Shekila and Kallu, who are now married with children. Sadly, Guddu, his eldest brother whom he adored as a child, was killed in an accident just on the same day that Saroo got lost 25 years before. Otherwise, it is a happy resolution for Saroo.

Not only Saroo, but his Aussie parents, Sue and John as well, come off as wonderful, loving and caring parents and individuals. Sue herself was a WWII refugee from Hungary and her story is also inspring as told it in the book. Saroo's birth mother Kamala is another remarkable woman, who never gave up hope that her son Sheru (which is his correct name!) would return one day. Hence she never moved from the shack where she lived so that she will be there when Saroo comes back! The other heroes in the book are the internet, Google Earth and Facebook! It is a great tribute to these wonderful technologies which make it possible for the adult Saroo to sit ten thousand miles away in Hobart, Australia and exactly locate the water tower and overpass of his childhood memory and find out the correct name of his village. Let no one denounce technology again!

I found the book moving, inspirational and one of hope and the indomitable spirit of the humankind. It is a story of triumph against great odds. Going through the early chapters where Saroo survives for six weeks as a five-year-old in Calcutta, I had palpitations as I felt anxious that nothing terrible should befall young Saroo! The book also has a special appeal for me since I grew up in India and lived for 13 years in wonderful Australia.

Kindness of strangers and Persistence can work miracles.

This was an awesome, harrowing, frightening, poignant, story of little 5 year old boy, lost in Calcutta. His instincts kept him alive, avoiding starvation, capture by nefarious men, and being beaten up by other homeless kids. His whole existence centered around searching for food. Hunger was always with him. This story makes you wonder why India doesn't try to help the millions and millions of its citizens whose lives revolve around searching for food and getting clean water. This boy finally trusted someone who brought him to a place for homeless children, and then he was moved to an orphanage The orphanage was run by a caring lady whose job was to find homes to place the orphans. Saroo's life took a complete turn in another direction when he was placed with a family in Australia. I can't wait for the movie to come out staring Dev Patel. I really hated the book to end. Saroo thrives in his new life, with the love of a mother and father. But he always wonders what happened to his mother and brothers and sister in India. He knows his mother would never stop hoping he would return home. He uses modern technology, Google Earth, on his computer to try to find his home in India, but he is relying on his 5 year old memory. This is a must read.

Incredible Journey

Probably one of the most fantastic "lost and found" stories ever written. No doubt, this has all the earmarks for an excellent screen play. I hope they do the story justice in the movie version.

The author addressed some of his inadequate assumptions in his search for home due to faulty memory. I kept asking myself, though, why he didn't search in areas where tigers are found in India. He recalled going to his father's house only a two hour bus ride from where tigers could have "eaten his brothers" when they ran away. A quick search of rail lines adjoining these few locations, along with a search for cities with train stations starting with "B", which he also recalled, would have yielded a quick discovery.

At the same time, his actual slow and methodical Google Earth search for home from Calcutta rail lines where he was lost only made the story more poignant since it was based on his memory and the frailties of his youth. It made for exciting suspense as he detailed his search, while the reader played with their own hypothetical forensic techniques to find his home based on 20:20 hindsight. Heck, even I could make a movie out of this story and sell it!
