This book came into existence because there did not seem to be any single book that would be adequate as a text for courses on hearing aids or that could advise practicing clinicians on all aspects of hearing aids.

I have aimed to make the book both practically useful and theoretically sound. Issues are explained rather then described. Wherever possible, practical recommendations are based on empirical research, and where there is no research to draw upon, the tentative nature of the recommendation or conclusion is indicated. Readers who already know the field well will notice that the book contains some data and clinical procedures that are published for the first time, as well as hopefully some new insights and perspectives into older issues.

The book is designed to be read on a number of levels. For readers who need only an overview of a topic, the synopsis at the beginning of each chapter should suffice. Most readers will hopefully be enticed to read further; the essential information on each topic is marked with a shaded bar in the margin. These marked paragraphs are designed to be read, and to be understandable, without the intervening paragraphs. I think of the marked material as a thin book buried inside this thick book. Some academic courses may wish to restrict themselves to just this material, which includes approximately half the book. The remaining material provides a greater level of detail. Finally, the most detailed comments are tucked away as footnotes and as sections in small print. The material at all levels is further segmented by presenting the most theoretical material and the most practical material in the form of self-contained panels. These two types of panels are differentiated by their appearance and by the panel titles.

Best investment I ever made

Anyone in the field of Audiology knows this book as The Bible. I bought it four years ago and I use it as a reference book constantly. Do yourself a favor and bind this book because it will get worn! It is a comprehensive guide to hearing aids and it explains most terms in a simple and understandable manner. Some concepts will not seem simple right away, but read explanations from anyone else, and you will realize that Dillon is a master at explaining very complex concepts. I have taken two hearing aid courses based solely on this book and I strongly recommend it to anyone in our field.

great book covering many aspects of hearing aids

I'm just an interested amateur, but this books covers lots of areas in some depth regarding the technology and fitting of hearing aids. It would be nice to see a little more mathematical/engineering approach, but this book seems to be aimed at audiologists, and is well suited for that use.

Helped me with Board Certification Test

This book isn't up to date per se (OTC's in particular), however, the basic information it contains is fantastic. I give credit to this textbook for helping me to pass the national exam for NBC-HIS, without which I feel I may have very likely failed. The book is thorough in its approach to hearing aids and contains a great amount of information that all hearing professionals need to know. I keep my copy in my library as a ready reference. The only reason that I do not give it five stars is that it is 10 years old. Apart from this, it is an excellant book to study and keep as a useful reference. I highly recommend it.

Enjoyable Read

I just finished reading the entire book, and I must say, I'm pleased. There are a few grammar errors and odd word choices inside that sort of put a halt to the reading process, but that comes with the territory of reading translated work as it is. It's still a great collection of short stories on minor events that happen outside of the main story in the manga - centered on the earlier portions before everything goes... intense. It's light novels such as this that shines a light on elements of the story you would never have had if you'd stuck with simply the manga.

Great Side Stories

I love Tokyo Ghoul, it's my favorite manga and anime. So when I saw that there was a side Story that came out, I had to jump at it.

Didn't realize it was actually a novel style, and not a manga. But when I got started, I could not stop. I love seeing different stories within the world of Tokyo Ghoul.

Definitely worth a read for TG fans.

what an incredible book, im a huge Tokyo Ghoul fan, and these short stories were very interesting, i liked how each story would interact with the previous story, making connections through out each adventure. gave us a little insight of some happy moments between characters before the tragedy happened.

Marriages between Americans and Mexican society women and membership in such organizations as Masonic brotherhoods brought the foreigners into the most important social circles.

Integral Outsiders: The American Colony in Mexico City, 1876D1911, contains a colorful history of the Porfiriato through the lens of American participation, including carefully wrought descriptions of expatriate Americans. These individual biographies make the narrative more human and interesting, allowing Schell to move beyond the simplistic view of weak, greedy Mexican elites conspiring with powerful, greedy foreign capitalists to amass great wealth while impoverishing the Mexican masses and creating economic underdevelopment.

Basing his comments on meticulous research, Schell points out that U.S. influence was hardly a one-way street and that the interaction between U.S. citizens and Mexicans was a complex system of cultural negotiations. He demonstrates convincingly that, while insinuating themselves into Mexican society, Americans thought that they were changing Mexico, and, in so doing, changed themselves. As Schell states, 'Ultimately, then, it may be said that the Porfirian regime got the form of hegemony it sought, and Washington took the sort of hegemony it could get.'

I just received the 1st of two books I ordered from Amazon today written by Kim Arcand and Megan Watzke! "Light The Visible Spectrum and Beyond" and all I can say is WOW! This hardcover book is Spectacular in Every Detail from the Unbelieveable Images to the Accompanying Narratives that describe each Aspect of Light in Fine Detail! I thought I knew something about light since I've been a photographer all of my life and have a high-level of interest in Astronomy and the Sciences, but I've never seen another book like it! I have to consider this book the entire "Encyclopedia of Light!" It's a MUST HAVE for all Astronomers, Astrophotographers, Cosmologists, Physicists, or anyone else interested in learning about the many Fascinating Properties of Light! Purchase this well-written book for yourself or as a gift for your child, a family member or friend! You will not be disappointed! Kim Arcand works for NASA as a Visualization lead for the Chandra X-Ray Telescope and Megan Watzke works at the Smithsonian in Washington DC. Both of these women have excellent credentials and they have done an Outstanding Job in writing this book! Stunning visuals, fascinating content.

The images in this book are absolutely stunning! What an absolutely top quality book. It's beautiful as a physical object and packed with fascinating information. I also love that the authors are women, as women in STEM are so important. My husband and I are excited to read LIGHT with our son, and I would recommend this book for all families who enjoy reading books together that are informative and fun.

This is our second book from Arcand and Watzke and we absolutely love it. The pictures are stunning and match with the text to help you really understand different aspects of light. My seven year old daughter has a particular interest in astronomy and constellations, so anything related to the "stars" she loves, and she really liked the parts where you can see how different types of light can reveal different looking images. This book helps you understand what is going on from a science perspective, particularly if you're not a scientist, and now I can actually explain a thing or two. Really an awesome book for all ages.
