Liana Lowenstein, MSW, CPT-S, is a Registered Social Worker and a Certified Child Psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of traumatized children and their families. She has authored numerous books including Creative Interventions for Troubled Children and Youth, More Creative Interventions for Troubled Children and Youth, Creative Interventions for Bereaved Children, and Creative Interventions for Children of Divorce. Another great book for counselors from Liana Lowenstein

I loved the first book: Assessment and Treatment Activities for Children, Adolescents and Families. Volume II is brimming with just as many fun, tried and true interventions that counselors can use in their work with individuals, groups and families. There are several treatment areas in this book from engagement and assessment to feelings expression, social skills, coping skills, self esteem and termination. The activities I find especially helpful are Red or Black, Anger Menu, Bag of Rocks, Cool and Calm Feather Breathing Dragon, and Inside the Special Box. This is such a wonderful resource book for clinicians--new and experienced alike! Other books on this topic I'd recommend are:

A sequel that doesn't disappoint!

I have had such great success with the other books by Liana Lowenstein, that I did not even hesitate to add this book to my therapy library. I was not disappointed! It was nice to get a fresh take on some social skills activities, and I really like the problem-solving activities, particularly ones that help the client cope with difficult feelings in the moment of therapy. I have worked with many clients who have a hard time identifying goals and making plans, and several of the activities in this book target just that. Self-esteem bingo is a hit among my child and teenage clients and a great way to address social skills as well as bolster self-esteem. These activities are easy to plan for and carry out, but effective and fun. A great combination for a clinician involved in a busy practice!

Highly recommended tool for practitioners...

I have been using Ms. Lowenstein's books for many years in my work with children and adolescents. These books are always within reach when I work with children as I feel they are quite instrumental in my work. What I like about them is that they focus on issues--divorce, grief, loss, bereavement, troubled youth--that most books don't discuss as clearly. In my work with various populations I found Ms. Lowenstein's activities to be readily adaptable to every situation.
What I like most about this book is that it is a volume where practitioners share tools that have been effective in their work with children, adolescents and families. Most books in the field can't be used as effectively as this book. It provides ideas that have been used successfully but allow for tweaking, if need be, for the practitioners current situation.
I highly recommend this book and Ms. Lowenstein's other books that I have used. They have been instrumental in my work and the success of the children and adolescents that I work with. Every practitioner needs to add these books to their therapeutic library as the books are the most practical resources for practitioners.
